BrainView — Support

BrainView is an educational viewer for a sample brain MRI, processed with FreeSurfer. Scroll through axial, coronal, and sagittal slices, turn on subcortical or cortical anatomical overlays, tap a structure to identify it, browse the full list of labeled structures, rotate a 3D model of the cortical surface, or test yourself with the built-in quiz.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the scan come from?
A sample MRI scan, segmented with FreeSurfer. The subcortical labels come from its automated segmentation (aseg), and the cortical labels come from the Destrieux atlas.

Does the app need an internet connection?
No. The scan and all anatomical data are bundled with the app. The only optional network access is the "Learn more" links, which open a structure's Wikipedia article in Safari.

What does the 3D view show?
The left hemisphere's cortical surface from the same scan, colored by the Desikan-Killiany atlas. There's no right-hemisphere model.

Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 18 or later.

Can I use this for diagnosis?
No. BrainView is for educational use only. It is not a medical device and is not intended for diagnosis.
